NARS Velvet Lip Glide Collection
During my first year of grad school, I lived with a woman from Spain. Every now and then, she would try to describe something from her home country and felt she simply couldn’t. She would think about the perfect word to describe something in her native tongue, but an exact translation to English simply didn’t exist. I feel this must also be true about the new NARS Velvet Lip Glide gloss collection. There must be a French word that describes these perfectly, but with no direct translation to English I have to write paragraphs explaining how magnifique these glosses are.
The formula is similar to a gloss, but the color payoff is that of a lipstick. Velvet Lip Glide feels fantastic on the lips, and finishes with a modern semi-matte shade. The brand describes the feeling as “comfortable” and I couldn’t agree more! The applicator is a sponge-tip, but it’s a flat shape that allows for perfect application in even the tightest spot with just a swivel of the wrist. The applicator is soft and cushiony, and feels magnificent. Overall the experience from end to end with these glorious glosses is extremely luxe.

These four shades are pale and neutral. I know they’ll get heavy use from me! From left to right is Stripped- a pale skintone shade, Unlaced- a pale peachy/pink, Playpen- a medium apricot, and Bound- a dusky medium mauve.
These five shades of Velvet Lip Glide are vivid! Perfect for making a statement, these shades are seasonless and refuse to be ignored! From left to right Danceteria- a bold hot pink, La Main Bleue- a cool-hued berry, Mineshaft- a bright red that leans orange, No. 54- a true bright red, and Le Palace- a bold red leaning crimson.
The four shades above are ideal for fall, and I think of them as the “bold” shades from the collection. From left to right: Unspeakable- a dusky medium purple, Deviant- a muted red, Toy- a deep eggplant purple, and Area- a chocolate brown.
