After 4 (and almost 1/2!) years of beauty blogging, it’s pretty rare for me to be introduced to anything truly “new”. When uber-luxe haircare line Alterna passed along their Summer Hair Rx Sun-Kissed Mist, my curiosity was beyond piqued. Summer 2011 is officially the year of the bronze, so it’s time to go for it from head-to-toe with the very first hair bronzer I’ve ever sampled!
So, how does it work? Simply apply the mist to the hair with Alterna’s pump-spray bottle. Sun-Kissed Mist is NOT glitter. The sparkling bronze-toned particles in the formula are ultra-fine, and not chunky like glitter. After application, when the sun hits your hair in just the right way, your tresses will positively gleam! I recently changed my hair-color from light to dark in the Fall, and love the little bit of oomph that this product imparts.
Sun-Kissed Mist is also beneficial for the hair. The added hemp-seed oil adds moisture to dry hair, and helps to prevent frizz. The coco-nutty scent is as divine as your favorite tropical drink.
Go for it and gleam!
Ingredients, Hemp seed oil, organic cranberry, cucumber and avocado, and antioxidants.
The formula is free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, mineral oil, parafin, DEA, TEA, Petrolatum and Paba.
Retail price is $20 per bottle.

Does it turn your hair a different color? As a huge fan of bronzing products and summer, I’m so intrigued! Thanks!

No, it doesn’t actually change your hair color. It’s also only temporary. What it does is add a bronze shimmer to the hair, much like a shimmery bronzer would do for the face! It’s a great product!

Sounds amazing. I’ll definitely be picking one up soon. Thanks!!

This is a summer must, Adriana! When I had highlights, I didn’t need this “oomph” quite so much, but now that I’ve switched to dark it’s a nice accent for the season!

Ooooh wow! Interesting product! I will surely pick up this product. I want my hair to look golden! 😉 Thanks for the head’s up.

So, of course I went over to Sephora last night to pick up my own bottle of Altenra Summer Hair and hardly noticed a difference (I do have highlights). It does smell AMAZING, though. After a few hours and a late dinner out, I started to see that my hair was shinier and looked like I had just spent a day at the beach! I’m sure I would notice more of a bronzing effect on darker hair, but I still really like the product. What would you recommend for enhancing lighter shades of hair?? Thanks again for all the great tips!

Sorry to hear it wasn’t “stand out” for you, Adriana! I guess the shimmer is probably a bit more dramatic on dark hair. Yes, the formula is more than just shimmer! It’s a moisturizer and helps tame frizz too (and doesn’t it just smell dreamy? Confession… I once sprayed some on my arm, just so I could smell it all day!)

The smell alone sold me, originally. It is amazing and I’ve continued to use it for that reason. Also, don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m starting to notice that it is turning my hair even lighter (or possibly brighter) in the sun. I’m really liking that effect. I definitely appreciate the moisturizing and frizz-taming aspects of the product, too, which I could use right now. Oh, how I love summer…
