MAC Opulash Optimum Black Review
Any time I think that mascara has gotten as black as black could possibly be, I am proven wrong.
Black is not a color. Black is when a surface completely absorbs light, returning no visible color to the eye. Launching on August 25–and a part of MAC’s permanent collection–the Opulash mascara formula (a personal fave) in Optimum Black is officially the black hole of mascara shades. Lavanila Healthy Baby Collection
I love pampering my babies. Especially in the bath! So, it was only natural for me to covet the latest byLavanila–The Healthy Baby Collection! Not only is this recently-launched line of baby care completely chemical free, but the vitamin rich formula is put through a “baby safe test” to ensure the health, purity, nourishment, skin compatibility and sensitivity of the entire collection of product!
Every single product is the line pediatrician approved, and contains the highest quality 100% natural and organic ingredients (with a history of demonstrated safety and efficacy). Formulas are rich in healthful vitamins and minerals, and are hypoallergenic.
I’m especially fond of the LAVANILA Healthy Baby Wash. The 100% natural formula can be used on both hair and skin. The product is dispensed from a convenient upright pump bottle (especially great when you need to keep one hand on a newborn). The combination of well-known softening Calendula with vanilla and coconut oil means you won’t miss the artificial perfumes at all!
Pricy? I’ll be honest, there are definitely less expensive options in the marketplace. As an experienced Mom with two sensitive-skinned sons, I offer this piece of advice to Moms-to-be: baby’s skin is extremely delicate; rather than use your newborn’s delicate dermis as a testing-ground for the harsh and perfumy drugstore options, LAVANILA’s Healthy Baby collection is worth the splurge.
LAVANILA Healthy Baby Bottom Fragrance-free, $15
LAVANILA Healthy Baby Wash, $16
LAVANILA Healthy Baby Block, $20
LAVANILA Healthy Baby Butter, $14
LAVANILA Healthy Baby Lotion Face & Body, $15

Killer Heat by Brenda Novak
Killer Heat by Brenda Novak crossed my desk due to the corresponding name-sake lipgloss launched by 3 custom color specialists. Did you miss her last book? Had you purchased Killer Heat it when I first posted about the book’s release in September, you would have scored a free gloss!
I hadn’t read a book from cover to cover in 2 years… for real. Since the birth of my second child, I simply have limited free time. I never considered myself a “chick-lit” type, but the truth is that Brenda Novak’s Killer Heat is an addictive page turner, and above all else is a suspenseful murder mystery that keeps the reader guessing until the bitter end.
The relationship between protagonists Francesca and Jonah was interesting, but it was the motley crew of antagonists–with names like Butch, Champ and Paris–that really piqued my interest. I devoured this book in two days flat.

Liz Earle Haircare
Best known for her natural skincare line, Liz Earle has recently ventured into the world of haircare. Thank you, thank you, thank you Liz!
If you’re a regular reader of this beauty blog, you know that I have extremely sensitive skin. My face may be sensitive, but my scalp is SUPER-sensitive. Some shampoos irritate my scalp so badly, that I actually develop open sores like a leper. Gross, right?
Unfortunately for me, I am uncertain what ingredients cause this reaction, so sampling shampoos/conditioners is trial and error for me. Usually, before I dabble, I am understandably afraid!
When I read that Liz Earle was launching a haircare line, however, I had no fear. After sampling her natural, gentle skincare, I was confident I could trust the brand. And I was right!
Liz Earle Naturally Active Haircare is similar to her skincare line. The regimen begins with the one-size-fits-all Botanical Shine Shampoo, regardless of your hair type. This deeply moisturizing shampoo caused me no irritation at all, and WOW does it work into the most amazing frothy lather! Then, you continue the process by selecting a conditioner that works for your hair. There are three types to select from: Normal, Oily and Dry or Damaged. The Botanical Shine Conditioner for Dry or Damaged hair moisturizes well, but doesn’t weigh down my freshly-cut layered bob or make it frizzy.
I am positively hooked!
Best of all? Despite being a UK import, the prices are attainable! Botanical Shine Shampoo retails for $14.50 for a 6.7 fl. oz. tube. The Botanical Shine Conditioners are $14.50 for a 6.7 fl. oz. tube (regardless of hair type). Not sure if you want to commit? A 1.7 fl. oz. tube at $7.50 is perfect for sampling, or for travel!
