Beauty Deal… From Time Magazine?

It probably doesn’t happen often that a column in Time magazine would point to a great beauty deal.  In their January 29th issue, however, they mentioned “Test Tube”.  I immediately signed up.

An annual subscription to Test Tube is $100 (plus additional shipping), and four times a year you will be shipped a tube-shaped container filled with large beauty samples.  According to Time, the cosmetics themselves are worth about 8 times the cost of the subscription. 

I’ll be sure to let you all know if I come upon anything great!

Stila Lip Glaze

A friend of mine once insisted that I boycott Stila products with her.  A long story… but I said “no problem” at the time, and found it easy to avoid their products… until now.  Stila’s lipglazes are luscious, in fruity flavors with smells that remind me of my childhood glosses.  The “watermelon” gloss is especially great for a natural look, and it’s barely there color makes me long for the casual days of summer every time I put it on.

Brush Cleaner

Since we’re on the topic of brushes– let’s discuss brush cleaners.  Ladies, you MUST regularly shampoo your brushes!  I’m sure so many women don’t, and it just doesn’t make sense.  If you spend time regularly cleansing, moisturizing, and agonizing over breakouts…  Why would you use dirty brushes and spread oil from 3 months ago back onto your face?

But I digress.  This brush cleaner from Paula Dorf is fantastic.  It thoroughly cleans your brushes of makeup residue, and is gentle enough to keep them in good shape.

Must Have: The Foundation Brush

Foundation, boring as it is, is really the most important part of a beauty regimen.  It’s the one product that can simultaneously even skin tone, set the rest of your makeup, and even protect your skin from sun exposure (providing you smartly chose one with SPF).

But, how you apply foundation is as important as the foundation you use.  A foundation brush smooths the liquid perfectly over the skin for a flawless finish with impeccable blending.  My personal choice is Chanel’s brush #16, Le Pinceau Teint.  The bristles are so soft, they feel like silk.  Despite the fact that my brush is many years old- each time I wash it, it looks brand new.
