Beyond Coastal Active Daily Sunscreen SPF 30
Beyond Coastal Sun Care was founded by Shawn Biega, a sports enthusiast who spent a lot of time outdoors (often wearing no sun protection). According to the Beyond Coastal website, Shawn “witnessed firsthand the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation when a few friends developed skin cancer in their early 30s.”
My husband is an avid cyclist, and sometimes weeks will pass before he even uses a car to commute to work. Great for the environment, yes… but his rigorous riding schedule could certainly damage his skin and heighten his risk for skin cancer. As a result I am constantly on his case about sunscreen application. I also occasionally like to use him as a guinea pig for product reviews. You can see where I’m going with this, right?
After using it for a day or two, I asked him what he thought. His words to me were: “It didn’t smell bad. It went on fine.” I laughed. He then added. “What more do you want? It’s a $%@&! sunblock.”
Obviously, I would have to sample this myself to write a review. I was impressed. This SPF 30, broad-spectrum sunscreen is designed to stay on through even the most active of athletic challenges. Unlike some sunscreens, this product never ran into my eyes or irritated my sensitive skin. Beyond Coastal Active Daily Sunscreen absorbed quickly, and I was able to apply my makeup over it with no problem.
My husband was perhaps unable to articulate how much he likes this product, but it quickly became the household favorite, with every member of the family using it (until it was gone)!
Beyond Coastal products are all dermatologist tested, hypoallergenic, paraben-free and oil-free. Their products are manufactured to meet USA- FDA, Australian, European EEC, Japanese AND South African standards. A 4 oz. bottle sells for $15.00 on the Beyond Coastal website (shipping is free with a purchase of $25 or more- via Pay Pal), or you can check for a retailer near you.
Global Goddess Shine Coconut Amla Revitalizing Hair Treatment
As an Indian-American, Celebrity Makeup Artist Shalini Vadhera knows the secrets behind long, shiny hair. Her desire to share the beauty potions of her ancestors launched the Global Goddess brand.
Global Goddess Coconut Amla Revitalizing Hair Treatment is one of her many efforts to introduce Eastern beauty secrets to the West. According to the Global Goddess website, Indian women give themselves a "weekly coconut oil scalp massage to promote growth and wash away tress stress." Shalini’s hair miracle in a bottle contains Coconut, Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Grape Seed and Neem oils to deliver this weekly Indian treat right to your scalp.
My hair has a tendency to look dull. One afternoon I set aside some "me" time to follow the instructions for an intensive treatment. I applied the product to damp, clean hair, and waited for 30 minutes. Then I shampooed and conditioned as I normally would. This product gave my hair instant shine! For those of you with less time to dedicate, a 5-10 minute treatment performed more frequently can also give results.
As a bonus, this product has an off-label use mentioned by its creator. Rub leftover oil from your hair into your body for softer skin and a healthy glow!

Victoria’s Secret Spa Body Scrub
This is perhaps dangerous information for me to reveal where it can be misused– specific packaging design and ingredients can cause me to spontaneously buy product as if in a trance.
I walked into Victoria’s Secret the other day with no intention of buying any beauty product. In a store filled with wildly colored fruity scented bath and body product, I was immediately attracted to a tiny display of the comparatively bland in appearance spa collection. For some reason, sleek and unassuming packaging always catches my eye more than the loud and obvious style of product like "Beauty Rush" pictured at left.
Then I read the label of the Body Scrub. Sugar and Coffee Bean? Coffee is my kryptonite. I’m obsessed with coffee in every way, and love to buy beauty product containing coffee. I grabbed the jar and headed to the register.
At home, I was surprised this scrub smelled nothing like sugar or coffee. It smelled of perfume, a somewhat negative surprise, but the scent was fresh and clean. Victoria’s Secret Spa Intensive Body Scrub is powerful stuff. Unlike gentle scrubs used on the face, this product means business. It made my rough elbows and knees softer after only one use.
I purchased this product at full price ($18), but their entire Spa line is currently on sale for 50% off (ironically, they are likely changing the packaging)! Sadly, their online store appears to be out of this product at the time of publication! Be sure to check this one out in-store for $9, or snag another item from their Spa line!
