In the 90s, it was common for women to coordinate lip and nail color. The trend was ladylike and classic, and looked pulled together in a sophisticated way. Slowly over the course of that decade, the trend shifted from what became looked down upon as “matchy matchy” to nails and toes in different–but still complimentary–shades. Fast forward to today, where the style is more anything-goes, with even complete clashing of nails and toes being acceptable!
MAC Fashion Sets News and Photos
Lest we forget, history always repeats itself! Don’t expect today’s rainbow-bright hues to appeal to consumers forever. Old fogeys like me remember clearly what happened the last time we all wore neon. Once the trend played itself out, we wore only black for 10 years we were all so sick of bright colors! Similarly, the blue and green nail lacquer shades of today will one day disappear from our makeup collections, and only reds, pinks, purples and nudes will remain.
Leading the trend back toward the ultra-polished ladylike look of matching lipstick and nail lacquer is MAC. MAC’s recently launched “Fashion Sets” collection contains the overall best-selling shades from regions all over the world in sets of matching nail lacquer, lipglass and lipstick. I’ve had an opportunity to check out four different fashion sets from this collection, and will be giving you an up close and personal look in the coming days. Must-haves abound, so be sure to grab your favorites soon, they’re only available until June!
Lipstick $14.50, Lipglass $14.50 and Nail Lacquer $16.00.
