Funny… before I ever read this fabulous advice on Fall hair color trends from Hallie Bowman, I toned down my usual blonde balyage for a deeper caramel color. My gut told me that a more natural look was the way to go for Fall. Looks like my instincts were correct! Among other advice from well-known stylist Hallie Bowman is to "return to your roots", so to speak. Still struggling with the transition from Summer to Fall? Read on!
“The days of striking, contrasting colors are gone this season,” explains Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, Hallie Bowman. “This fall people will be going back to their roots, or at least making it look that way. We’re going to see natural-looking tones to balance the more extreme hair styles that are going to be big, including mixed textures and nods to the 80s shapes.”
The Color Trends:
Blonde: Platinum blonde is out and warmer, neutral tones are in. If you’re blonde Bowman recommends shades of sable, vanilla or mink. However, if you’re not ready to let go of your platinum locks, soften the look by adding some golden highlights. Brunette: Reddish or bluish browns are out and warmer browns are in. Shades like deep chocolate and chestnut are going to be all-the-rage; it’s all about making your shade believable.
Redhead: Two words – true red. The key is to ask your stylist to stay away from blue and copper undertones, both of which reflect orange in the sunlight. One way to avoid orange is to add some highlights to cool down the shade.
Black: Stay away from blue undertones and go for ebony to keep the shade natural-looking.
Maintenance:
Once you’ve achieved the shade you want, keeping your color looking fresh can be a challenge, but it doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot! Bowman recommends using a shampoo and conditioner system that is developed for color treated hair, such as the ones from Pantene.

New York, New York—November 19, 2009—Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and NYC & Company—the city’s marketing, tourism and partnerships organization—today announced that the date for Fashion’s Night Out will be changed from Thursday, September 9 to Friday, September 10, 2010. The initiative’s decision is based on its desire to maximize local consumer and tourist participation by holding the highly anticipated shopping event on a weekend evening. The organizers of the initiative, which includes the CFDA, will work closely with the fashion industry to ensure that the change in date will not disrupt the ongoing trade activities of fashion week and the shows during that time.

First-Ever FNO Raised Retail Foot Traffic by 50% for the Evening Across the City's Five Boroughs
New York, New York – October 29, 2009 – Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and NYC & Company-the city's marketing, tourism and partnerships organization-today announced the return of Fashion's Night Out (FNO) on September 9, 2010. Coming off the successful first-ever Fashion's Night Out for the City, next year's event will look to continue to support the fashion and retail industries across the five boroughs. A key focus for 2010 will be to attract new participants in addition to the more than 800 stores that took part in this year's event and to provide a boost to the overall economy. Next year's event will again be marked by events and promotions across City stores featuring some of the fashion and retail industries top designers and leaders.
"The numbers are in, and it's clear that Fashion's Night Out was a tremendous success," said Mayor Bloomberg. "Thousands of New Yorkers attended the events in all five boroughs, supporting the City's retail and fashion industries and helping a worthwhile cause. It's sure to be an even bigger event in 2010."
"We were absolutely bowled over by the response to Fashion's Night Out. It was only fifteen minutes after the event began and we were getting reports about lines around the block at stores throughout the city," said Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour. "It was wonderful to see people embrace this initiative, and we are thrilled that they wish it to return."
Fashion's Night Out successfully raised awareness for fashion and helped build consumer confidence-with thousands of people joining the festivities at stores including Barneys New York, Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Payless ShoeSource. An independent study conducted by ShopperTrak, estimated a 50% increase in retail foot traffic and NYC & Company's own post-event survey of 1,300 consumers reported 75% purchased merchandise during FNO.
"Shopping and fashion have long been a staple of the New York City experience," said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. "Fashion's Night Out gave us all the opportunity to enjoy ourselves and support something that is quintessentially New York. We look forward to the return of FNO in 2010, and are ready to rally the City and the industry once again for this important program."
"To have designers in stores to celebrate and start a shopping season is the best idea for everybody," said designer Diane von Furstenberg. "It creates excitement and lots of business!"
The NYC & Company survey also reported that two-thirds of consumers questioned visited stores they had never been to before and 61% visited neighborhoods outside of their work and residential areas.

After the programs success this past year, plans are being made to stage FNO once again in places such as London, Paris, Milan, Berlin, Madrid, Moscow, Athens, Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing, Sao Paolo and New Delhi.
