While bright shades of makeup are going to be super-popular and talked about this Spring, the unsung heroes of the season will still be neutrals. It reminds me of the old “The Ant and the Cricket” childhood story. The neutrals are doing all of the hard work, while the super bright shades simply party on and bask in the glory of the sun.
A Neutral To Know And Love: Bilbao Satin Lipstick
Here’s the deal. Brights are best kept to only one part of your regimen: eyes, cheeks or lips. NEVER all three! Your overall look will still be anchored by the neutral shades you love and crave, and that’s where lipstick like Bilbao comes in.
Bilbao is what I consider to be a modern neutral. Neutral shades–particularly for the lips–are deeper and more opaque. Bilbao, described by NARS as a “shimmering topaz” is a medium nutmeg beige with a tiny hint of pink.
This shade is an ideal accompaniment to Dark Rite on the eyes, or Gaiety on the cheeks (swatches above). NARS Satin Lipstick has a medium opacity, and looks much more sophisticated than the paler naked lipstick shades that were popular just a year or two ago.
