During the Great Depression, sales in nearly every category plummeted. However, during that time, the sales of lipsticks actually soared. The phenomenon has been called the “Lipstick Effect” and was basically the result of a poorer female customer seeking an affordable splurge.
During our most recent downturn, we have most certainly seen a “Lacquer Effect“. The last few years have seen the rise of all things nail, and the truth is that in the early days of the craze, mass-market manufacturers pretty much missed the boat. But this being the land of opportunity, many independent brands popped up to fill the void, including my picks for the perfect Fall manicure, Literary Lacquers.
Perfect Fall Mani: Literary Lacquers
Dandelion Wine is a linear holographic from the Literary Liquor collection. It’s a gleaming yellow gold. Not familiar with a linear holographic finish? When the sun hits this nail lacquer just right, it delivers an almost three-dimensional effect! Very unique!
Jack Rose is a light whisky shade of polish with a linear holographic effect. This shade is great for a more conservative consumer. Indoors, the shade looks like a neutral bronze shimmer (as seen above). Get it outside in the sunlight and it’s magic!
Jealous Oberon is perfect for a party. The shade is a gleaming gold, filled with chunky gold glitter of ranging from small to large square shapes. I can’t think of anything more festive, yet sophisticated.
I was worried that More Like Fire Than Light would be too summery for Fall, but I was wrong! This linear holographic polish is the exact shades of some of the turning leaves where I live.
An Honest Puck caught my eye immediately when I was browsing the Literary Lacquers shop. This brown polish contains a scattering of small brown glitter and large green glitter. If you want to wear something truly unique for Fall, this should be your pick! I love it on a pedicure, but this would actually be great for a Fall accent nail as well.
