When I was still a student, a friend and I took a much-needed break from studying and headed to a local department store for a makeover. I was very pleased with my new eye look, which consisted of deep plums and earth tones. But when I saw my friend’s smoldering smoky eyes, I turned green with envy. Her baby blues were positively illuminated! I explained to my makeup artist that I’d like my eyes to look more like my friend’s. The devestating reply? My brown eyes simply wouldn’t “pop” the way her baby blues did.
Fast forward to the MAC launch of Haute & Naughty Lash, now in stores. With the above story in mind, the first thing I must note is that the blue-black shade of this mascara is a brown eyed girl’s best friend. The shade makes my boring browns glow like hot coals. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever encountered another product that accomplishes this successfully, with such ease. LOVE that!
The genius of this product packaging is astounding. The MAC Haute & Naughty Lash tube contains not one, but TWO applicators, that are nested inside of each other. The thin mascara wand (at the top of the above image) is actually housed inside of a thicker wand (seen at the bottom with the thin wand stored inside). For dramatic lashes, apply the volumizing mascara first, and then top it off with the lengthening mascara. Coupled, the two mascara formulas produce the most incredibly full lashes you will ever see! The lengthening formula used stand-alone, is great for day wear.
Sadly, there is a downside to this mascara. I find the volume mascara to be a bit clumpy upon application. It’s something easily remedied by running a finger over the lashes after application, but I still felt it had to be mentioned! The lengthening formula, on the other hand, doesn’t clump at all. Overall, despite the clumpiness, I have to rate this product as a “buy”. Especially if you’re a brown-eyed girl looking to shine!
