Similar to its sweet-smelling sister product, Thalgo’s gentle exfoliant smells of flowers. While using it, it is obvious this exfoliant is intended for the face. Unlike many lower-end exfoliants that are abrasive and scratchy, Thalgo’s is so gentle you just barely feel the tiny Polyethylene Granules sloughing away your dry skin cells. When you rinse away the emulsion, it is unmistakable the product did the job. This exfoliant transforms the face from dull and dry to fresh, clean and rosy.

Vanicream
My dermatologist introduced me to Vanicream. He sells the tube pictured at left for $8 in his office. It’s a fantastic skin moisturizer free of dyes, fragrance, lanolin, formaldehyde and parabens. Vanicream can be used on both the face and body.
What a sucker I was, buying it for $8! Drugstore.com sells it for $5.99 and also stocks the sunscreen version of the product. DERMAdoctor sells it for $5.95!
The manufacturers of Vanicream–PSI Pharmaceutical Specialties Inc.–have a fantastic resource on their site. It’s a list of common chemical irritants found in beauty products. A great resource.
Global Goddess Beauty Chai Cheek Color
Many products claim to be universally flattering. Upon applying Global Goddess Beauty Chai Cheek Color in Mirik (pictured at left) to my lily-white skin, it immediately struck me that the punchy peach color that looked so great with my complexion would look equally invigorating on the deepest of ebony skin as well.
I ran through through a checklist to determine true universal application, and it passed with flying colors. Would it look good on Alex Wek? Damn right it would! Eva Longoria? Absolutely! The Indian-America creator of Global Goddess Beauty, Shalini Vadhera? Oh, definitely! Gwen Stefani? No doubt!
Chai Cheek Color contains green tea as an antioxidant, safflower seed oil as a skin nourisher, pearls to add luminance, and Ginseng to calm the skin. Even the case is beautiful! This product is available for $20 at Sephora, or Global Goddess Beauty.
Korres Natural Products Showergel, Basil Lemon
My 21-month-old son woke earlier than most farmers one day last week. He refused to get back to sleep, even in bed with dear Mom. That morning, even the strongest coffee couldn’t give me the extra energy I needed.
Then I popped into the shower. The scent of this citrusy shower gel had an effect on me reminiscent of old "Irish Spring" commercial. My eyes popped wide-open upon pouring it into my hand.
I admit, Korres Basil Lemon Showergel is not a miraculous energy delivery system, but the zesty smell certainly did give me a pick me up! The foamy cleanser left my skin feeling refreshed and soft. The gentle citrus scent lingered for hours afterward.
Recently acquainted with Korres Natural Products through sampling their Guava Body Butter (read my product review of Korres Guava Body Butter HERE), I had no idea what a gem I had stumbled upon. The Korres mission is to provide "safe, effective and natural products by broadly avoiding synthetic components". Ironically, despite avoiding some synthetic components that are widely used because they are so inexpensive, Korres Natural Products are reasonably priced. A large bottle of Korres Natural Products Showergel, Basil Lemon is only $11.
Biore Ultra Deep Cleansing Pore Strips
Once upon a time, I worked for a shall-remain-nameless online retailer. While interviewing, I was handed the typical packet of "our-company-is-great" documentation, including a copy of the TIME cover featuring the Chairman/CEO as person of the year.
I was impressed. I marveled over his achievement.
I just couldn’t get past the fact that his nose was riddled with a horrid quantity of VERY visible blackheads.
Don’t be that guy! Biore Ultra Deep Cleansing Pore Strips are an incredibly effective, incredibly quick way to unplug even the most clogged of pores (including the pesky creases around the nose).
