The Ultimate Guide: How To Use Sephora Formula X Nailpolish
The Sephora Formula X Prep Process
Formula X has a four step application process. First on your clean nail bed, apply the “Cleanse” product and allow it to dry. This preps the nail for polish application. Secondly apply a transparent base code, which actually was looks somewhat pink in the bottle. Thirdly you apply the nail lacquer of your choice, then follow up with the clear top coat.
The line also includes other TLC product for your nails: Delete- a polish remover, Dry– a nail drying spray, Erase– a cuticle conditioner, Strengthen– nail hardener, Quench– cuticle oil, Smooth– a nail ridge filler, and Hydrate– a nail hydrator.
Sephora Formula X Review: Colors and Textures!
Before I continue, I want to cover two important things. 1) The Formula X For Sephora formula is three free. 2) The bottle caps are designed such that the cumbersome but pretty rectangular cap can be removed. Underneath is a round shaped top for application.
The basic shades are divided into two collections one is called New Classics that includes 62 shade and another is called New Neutrals that includes 31 shades. So before we even get into anything more unusual, you have 93 shades of tried-and-true color with cream and frost finishes. Here comes the fun part. The Effects Collection includes an incredible array of options for nail aficionados who have had to scour indie brands in an attempt to find the complex nail finishes they desire. The Effects Collection is divided into groups: The Brilliants, the Sparklers, the Celestials, the Superwatts, the Chromes, the Holograms, the Transformers, the Lusters, the Xplosives, the Shifters, and the Electrics.

Formula X For Sephora Xplosives, Chaotic
From the Xplosives Top Coats collection is Chaotic. This top coat actually gives the appearance of graffiti on the nail and reminds me of a Jackson Pollock painting! The trick with using these chunky glitters is in the application. If you’re new to using them, remember that you can’t just apply it like a regular nail polish where you brush the brush over the nail bed because too much glitter will come off with the brush. You should start with a dabbing motion and try to more strategically place the glitter and then brush over the nail. It’s not as hard as it sounds!
Formula X For Sephora New Neutrals, Invincible
Invincible was a nice surprise! I’ve never really owned a creamy, ivory shade like this! Invincible is an ivory/peach that is very neutral and has a cream finish.
Formula X For Sephora Holograms, Juju
Juju is a linear holographic pale blue, that simply dances in the light. If you’ve never tried a holographic, I must highly recommend the Formula X for Sephora formula. Living in Seattle, I am indoors a lot this time of year. Some holographics fall flat in indoor light, but not these!
Formula X For Sephora Superwatts, Lightening
From the Superwatts collection, Lightening was the first shade I tried (perfect on Halloween). This nail lacquer has a sheer jelly base, and three coats make it absolutely sing. The formula is packed with small green and green iridescent glitter large chunky gold glitter. The finish looks like crushed gemstones have been applied to the nail! It seriously throws that much light!
Formula X For Sephora Celestials, Orion’s Belt
From the Celestials Collection is Orion’s Belt. This shade has a sandy texture to it, and actually looks almost like stone. The shimmer really makes it interesting.
Formula X For Sephora New Classics, Push The Limits
Push the Limits has a cream finish and is a seasonless coral red shade. A great pick if you live in a cold climate, but plan on a tropical vacation… this shade works in any climate!
Formula X For Sephora Chromes, Racy
Racy is a metallic lavender shade. Chrome finishes like this are hot for 2013, and the pale purple adds an ice princess appeal to it.
As I write this, I have about nine different colors added to my virtual Sephora cart, and I simply can’t talk myself off of this ledge!
Colors range from $10.50 to $12.50 each depending on which finish you select.

Formula X For Sephora Q&A
What are must-haves from the Sephora Formula X Collection?
You need to grab one of the Xplosives Top Coats, which add a creative modern-art vibe to any manicure. I recommend Chaotic. If you’ve never tried a Holo polish before, they are a must-see as well. Some holos fall flat in interior lighting, but not these!
What should I skip from the Sephora Formula X Collection?
My personal opinion is that the weakest link in this collection is “The System”. I had much better wear time with base and top coats from another brand.
Is Sephora Formula X Big 3 Free?
You bet it is!
Are The Square Caps Removable For Application?
Yes, beneath the square-ish shaped cap is a smaller, round handle for easy application.
