I’m fascinated by human behavior, and how popular preferences seem to be cyclical. In the mid-80s, for example, most women owned eye-color in a shade like Siahi, (swatch at left) part of the MAC + Mickey Contractor collection. Had you worn brown eye pencil in 1985, you may as well have sauntered into the room wearing brown corduroy bellbottoms! In the mid-90s, your girlfriends would have slaughtered you behind your back if you wore teal eyeliner for a night out!
So here we are, in the year 2011, and color is once again coming to the fore. The rich bluish teal named Siahi is spot on for 2011, a time when rocker-chic is utterly hip! Will brown once again become passe? I’m skeptical that the pendulum is set to swing that far, but it’s interesting to ponder!
I generally stick to eye pencil, but MAC Fluidline is a bit of an obsession, even if it means lazy me needs to take an extra step and find my eyeliner application brush! I love how wonderfully smudgy this rich color is when first applied, it’s so easy to create a smoky effect! Then Fluidline quickly dries to leave budge-proof vibrant color.
