It’s all too easy for me to get lost in the aisles of Walgreens when I visit. It seems like Walgreens makeup selection increases by the day, and it’s so easy to play with the testers without being hounded by commission-happy representatives. Ah… the peace of shopping at the corner drugstore! I created a Spring Walgreens Beauty Look back in February, and loved the look I created so much, I used it as my Facebook profile photo! Now it’s time to update my “assignment” for summer (and hopefully my Facebook profile photo, once again)!
Summer Beauty With Walgreens!
Step 1: Sunscreen
I recently relocated to the desert, and let me tell you… a desert summer redefines the word “hot”. Temperatures regularly hit highs of 110, and when I leave the house in the morning it’s usually already 90. It’s HOT, and SUNNY, and as a result, I have made daily application of sunscreen step 1 in my makeup regimen. It’s the first thing I do every day after my skin is dry from showering. Banana Boat Sun Spray in the formula “Protect & Hydrate” offers an easy to apply spray formula that has an SPF of 50 (SPF 50 is my minimum for the face, neck and chest). To apply this sun spray to your face, simply spray into your hands. It’s so much easier that way, and you won’t have to breathe in sun spray fumes!
During my first two months in Arizona, I didn’t apply any sunscreen to my arms and legs. I really wanted to be sure to absorb some of that Vitamin D goodness! My doctor scolded me for this, so I was happy to try Hawaiian Tropic Sunscreen, in the Sheer Touch Lotion formula, with a lower SPF 15.
Both sunscreens are great for daily use. My makeup applied well over the Banana Boat formula, and I loved that the Hawaiian Tropic Sheer Touch sunscreen didn’t feel like sunscreen at all. It felt like body lotion! Beautiful!
Step 2: Summer Eye Makeup
I applied my foundation and powder bronzer as usual, and then moved to the eyes. Generally speaking, I keep makeup light and casual for the summer months. I’m active, and love to play with my kids when they are home from school! I like to use smaller amounts of makeup with great staying power. I applied a tiny bit of shadow in a neutral color, and some eye pencil. The cherry on top of my simple eye makeup routine was the Maybelline Pumped Up! Mascara I used to top it all off! Keep scrolling for images of the amazing mascara applicator!
WOW, right? This applicator wand is big, fluffy, and has a somewhat conical shape that directs more product to the outer lashes. This mascara definitely delivers great volume.
Step 3: Summer Lips
I love a lip stain for summer, because the color really clings to your lips. It’s tough to commit to a bold summer gloss if you don’t have time to constantly reapply. Revlon Moisture Stain Lip Stain in Barcelona Nights is a strong pink that really stands out. I’m a big fan of bold lip color in the summer, because I am ALWAYS wearing sunglasses, so it’s usually the only makeup others can see on me! Barcelona Nights is a beautiful pick for summer, and definitely something you should check out. Unlike some lip stains, that deliver a magic-marker wash of color, Revlon’s Moisture Stain Lip Stain wears just like a gloss.

Step 4: The Summer Manicure
To finish off the look, I used Revlon Gel Envy. The Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy Longwear Nail Enamel formula is free of formaldehyde, toluene, and dbp. I chose the shade Royal Flush, because I loved how the color coordinated with Barcelona Nights.
The Revlon Gel Envy formula is extremely opaque and high-gloss as well. I had great color with only one coat (which sometimes comes in handy for a speedy summer manicure), but did proceed to use two for the photo above, and added some white and orange polka dots to my ring finger for a fun little accent nail. The Gel Envy formula is thicker than a standard polish, and definitely long wearing.
Wow… just look at this rich, shiny color!
The Reveal!
You can really appreciate the beauty of Revlon Moisture Stain Lip Stain in Barcelona Nights in my first summer look photo. It’s really the only color you can see on my face when I’m wearing sunglasses! That pop of pink is so cheerful and feminine, and look how shiny the Revlon Lip Stain is!
Here’s my finished summer look in indoor light. As you can see the look is very dewy, natural and simple. Best of all, it’s a look that lasted all day and protected my skin from sun damage!
